Officer Duties & Responsibilities

Past President
  • Help secure exhibitors for the Annual Educational Conference
  • Encourage members to recruit possible new exhibitors
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other officers
  • Provide guidance for completion of NEHA awards applications
  • Attend all governing council meetings or provide an authorized proxy
  • Ensure that all committees are functioning and that goals and objectives are maintained
  • Chair nominations committee
  • Provide guidance to submittal committee for NEHA awards applications

President

  • Preside over the meetings of the TEHA governing council

  • Attend all governing council meetings or provide an authorized proxy

  • Represent TEHA at the Board Meetings of annual NEHA conference

  • Submit a letter for publication in each Beacon

  • Be official spokesperson for TEHA

  • Provide leadership for TEHA

  • Ensure that all committees are functioning and that goals and objectives are maintained

President-Elect

  • Attend all meetings of the TEHA Governing Council or provide an authorized proxy

  • Chair the Professional Education Committee

  • Assist chapters in development of Educational programs, as needed

  • Promote educational opportunities for new sanitarians

  • Work to establish mentoring programs

  • Appoint one member at the summer meeting to serve on the Governing Council Nominating committee.  Governing Council Nominating Committee is to have candidate names available at the Fall meeting for two Governing Council positions.

  • Maintain a resource of materials for candidates  for the Registration Examination

  • Serve on the Selection Committee for the I.E. Scott Award

First Vice-President

  • Attend all meetings of the TEHA Governing Council or provide an authorized proxy

  • Chair the program Committee

  • Plan the Annual Educational Conference

  • Appoint section chairs to assist in program development

  • Arrange for keynote speakers

  • Assist Executive Secretary-Treasurer with coffee break sponsors

  • Provide AEC program summary by the Summer Governing Council meeting

  • Coordinate with Executive Secretary-Treasurer to set-up the awards luncheon

  • Promote the AEC by providing any mail-outs necessary

  • Secure audio-video equipment necessary for the AEC

  • Send thank-you notes to speakers and others who contributed to the program

  • Appoint one member at the summer meeting to serve on the Governing Council Nominating committee.  Governing Council Nominating Committee is to have candidate names available at the Fall meeting for two Governing Council positions.

  • Serve on the Selection Committee for the I.E. Scott award

Second Vice-President

  • Attend all meetings of the TEHA Governing Council or provide an authorized proxy

  • Serve on the Committee of Legislation and Guidance.  The members shall include the Second Vice-President, Legal Consultant, (if appointed by the Governing Council), and not less than four members

  • Serve on the Committee on Membership.  The members shall include the Second Vice-President as chair and the six elected councils

  • Serve on the Selection Committee for the I.E. Scott award

  • Appoint one member at the summer meeting to serve on the Governing Council Nominating committee.  Governing Council Nominating Committee is to have candidate names available at the Fall meeting for two Governing Council positions.

Governing Councilor

  • Attend all meetings of the TEHA Governing Council or provide an authorized proxy

  • Serve on the Committee on Membership.  The members shall include the Second Vice-President as chair and the six elected councils

Chapter President

  • Preside over the meeting of the local chapter.  Meetings are to be held at regular intervals to be decided by the local chapters.  Local chapters may have as many meeting as desired, but no less than two (2) per year. 

  • Attend all meetings of the TEHA Governing Council or provide an authorized proxy

  • Serve on the Committee on Awards which is responsible for the I.E. Scott nominations and Meritorious Service Awards nominations.  All nominations are to be submitted to the Executive Secretary-Treasurer by July each year.  The Chapter President may present to the Awards Committee one (1) nomination from their area of consideration for a meritorious service award.  The committee is authorized to present additional awards at large as it deems necessary.

  • Serve on or appoint a member from the local chapter to serve on the Nomination Committee for Second Vice-President.  They shall nominate no less than two (2) candidates for the office of Second Vice-President.  The committee should be established at the Summer meeting and in order to have nominations by the Fall meeting of the Governing Council. 

  • Assist the Executive Secretary-Treasurer in maintaining a current membership list

  • Assist the Membership Committee in increasing membership

  • Communicate all information from local members to the officers and Governing Council

  • Communicate all information from the Governing Council meeting back to the local members

  • Encourage members to submit articles for publication in the Beacon

  • Prepare a chapter report for presentation at each regular Governing Council meeting and submit a copy for publication in the Beacon
