South Texas Chapter
South Texas Governing Council News

Esteemed South Texas TEHA Members,

The board want to thank TEHA-STC President-Elect Josh Garza for running for Governing Council. Although not elected, we are really proud that he volunteered to represent the South Texas Chapter at the state level. Great job Josh!

The TEHA-STC Board is excited to plan to celebrate our 15th Annual EHA-STC Educational Conference at the beautiful Isla Grand on sunny South Padre Island on December 6, 7 and 8, 2018. We plan to have lots of prizes, raffle items, a comedy show with an Inspirational Speaker for all attendees to enjoy. Many memories will be made just a week and a half after Thanksgiving and three weeks before Christmas. It is always amazing to see so many TEHA members of different communities come together and have a blast, while obtaining their state required continuing education units. The idea of networking with others in the same field was extremely evident this year. This is going to be one for the books and I guarantee you don’t want to miss this one!!!

We have been very fortunate to have such great success with our trainings and conferences. Last year we decided to start a tradition to solicit Christmas Gifts that would be delivered to the Children’s Hospital by the TEHA-STC Board.

Furthermore, last year we began the “TEHA-TSC President Giveback” where the TEHA-STC President will get to choose a nonprofit organization to invite to the conference each December. As a result, TEHA-STC President Edgar Cruz chose a nonprofit that he has been a part of for many years. His goddaughter, Lily Lopez, was a recipient of this wonderful nonprofit. Although she past away, the studies she voluntarily agreed to have on her will benefit many future patients, that will be able to enjoy their lives because of her noble efforts. More information on Lily Lopez may be found at http://www.prweb.com/releases/2015/11/prweb13065928.htm I also want to thank everyone that signed up for our “Be The Match: The National Marrow Donor Program” (www.bethematch.org), a nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to helping every patient get the life-saving transplant they need.

Please contact me if you would like information on the J. Victor Baldovinos Scholarship which covers the Conference Registration, or if you are interested in being a speaker. As an added bonus, you will get free CEUs for the day you speak.

Lastly, it is with a heavy heart, but with fond memories that we have to remember our dearly departed Past TEHA-STC President James Jackson. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to his family and coworkers. He will be dearly missed!

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to our profession!
